Your chance to see child virtuoso violinist, Shoshanah Sievers

Thanks to Fergus for reminding us about this upcoming event. Ed

Shoshanah, aged 12 and a Junior student at the Royal College of Music, will be playing Rachmaninov’s Rahpsody on a theme of Paganini – an infamously technically challenging piece – and the violin solo movement in Karl Jenkins’ The Peacemakers at St John’s Church, Newport on Saturday 12 April.

Shoshanah SieversShoshi has already worked with Yehudi Menuhin school graduate and leading international performer Tasmin Little and seems destined to achieve similar heights. This quiet young girl with a big future will be joined in the orchestra by some leading musicians of the present.

Black Sabbath session musician
Karl Jenkins, the Composer of the evening’s main work, has never been afraid to include interesting instruments and The Peacemakers is no exception – on fretless bass guitar will be Black Sabbath session musician Lawrence Cottle.

As well as leading his own Big Band, Laurence has also composed music for TV, including Friends and Emmerdale, and has performed with Karl Jenkins on this same work.

Part-time rock star and pin-up
Leading the percussion will be Louise Morgan, a young first-class graduate from the Guildhall, part-time rock star and pin-up. The essential bass flute solos will be expertly handled by Andy Findon.

Along with all the professional individual musicians will be a selection of local talent, including soprano soloist Kirsten Victoria Barker from Whitwell, whose strong voice can be heard practising ‘all the way to Southford’.

The Children’s Choir of the Isle of Wight
The all important chorus will be provided by The Children’s Choir of the Isle of Wight, a selection of children from the Priory School and elsewhere and the Camerata Chamber Choir which, according to the adjudicator at the recent Isle of Wight music festival, is a ‘stunning’ group of voices.

The Peacemakers concert, to be held at St John’s Church, Newport on April 12 will be a once only opportunity to see a truly inspiring work played by some very exciting local and international musicians, and one 12 year old girl from Hampshire with a very rare talent.
