Cowes Library is joining the celebrations for the 200th anniversary of Cowes Week with two special events inspired by the world-famous regatta.
Silly sea creatures take centre stage
On Friday, 7th August, librarian Adam will host a Silly Sea Creature Drawing session from 10am to midday at the Isle of Wight Council-run library on Beckford Road.
Open to all ages, the creative activity invites participants to take inspiration from Cowes’ maritime surroundings and let their imaginations run wild, as they design their own weird and wonderful sea creatures.
Music and stories for younger visitors
The nautical-themed fun continues on Saturday, 8th August, when librarian Natalie will lead a musical storytime from 10.30am to 11am.
What you need to know before visiting
Children are encouraged to wear their favourite colourful or music-themed outfits and enjoy stories celebrating music and the beauty of dancing to the beat of your own drum.
Please note that all children must be accompanied by an adult throughout both events. Visitors should also be aware that there are currently no toilet facilities available at the library.
Discover Cowes’ maritime history at the museum
Cowes Library is also home to the Cowes Maritime Museum, which can be visited for free on Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.
The museum displays a wide range of objects and images which explain the story of Cowes and its famous maritime heritage. At the museum, you can see Uffa Fox’s dinghy, Avenger, and models of vessels built by J. Samuel White & Co Ltd of Cowes.

Games Club continues throughout Cowes Week
The library’s popular Games Club for Adults will also take place during Cowes Week.
Held every Monday from 2pm to 4pm, the friendly sessions offer an opportunity to meet new people, catch up with friends and enjoy a variety of board and card games.
Support is available for anyone learning a new game, with a wide selection of activities enjoyed each week.
