Cowes teenager allegedly researched Isle of Wight Festival for potential Islamic State-inspired terror attack

A 15-year-old teenager from Cowes appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court this morning on terrorism charges.

The court heard that the teen had allegedly researched the Isle of Wight Festival as a potential target of a so-called Islamic State-inspired terror attack, having developed an interest in extreme Islam and Isis ideology.

Tip-off from FBI
The youth was arrested on Monday 11th July by Counter Terrorism Police after a tip-off from the FBI.

They claimed he was planning to attack a non-believer who he thought had insulted Islam.

Alleged martyrdom note found
The court also heard that the youth had carried out online research into a location to commit an attack, whilst also looking at firearms, vehicles and a stab vest. A knife was found in his rucksack when he was arrested.

It was also heard that the youth had written notes, including an alleged martyrdom note entitled ‘To My Family’.

Pleaded not guilty
The 15-year-old pleaded not guilty to the charges and was remanded into youth detention accommodation.

He will next appear at the Old Bailey in London on 19th August.
