All those living in PO38 area can now claim to be living in one of the ‘coolest postcodes’ … according to Victoria Brzezinski at The Sunday Times.
Last Sunday saw PO38 selected for a list of the ten coolest postcodes to live in. Victoria’s spiel for the paper focused on Ventnor, St Lawrence and Bonchurch, but of course Islanders know that it also includes Bierley, Chale, Godshill, Kingston, Niton, Rookley, Sandford, Whitwell and Wroxall.
Here’s what Victoria had to say about PO38:
A clutch of cool Modern House-worthy homes have cropped up on the Isle of Wight’s southern coast, including a highly covetable conversion of a Second World War bunker, the brainchild of the architect Lincoln Miles and the artist Lisa Traxler, that featured on Grand Designs.
The neighbourhood spans Ventnor, Queen Vic’s favoured seaside retreat, St Lawrence and Bonchurch, regularly attracting artistic off-grid types tired of the rat race.
Binnel Studios at St Lawrence is a hub for artists-in-residence such as the acclaimed potters Sue Paraskeva, who has exhibited at the Saatchi Gallery, and Jane Cox, while rumour has it the Chanel team are regular visitors to a haberdashery run out of a secret garden room.
Other creatives on the Island include Rosie Wolfenden (co-founder of the jewellery brand Tatty Devine) and her husband, a film-maker, while the cult local clothing brand Roake Studio has opened in Ventnor — think Toast with a homemade twist.
For strolls and sunbathing head to sleepy Steephill Cove or dine on crab-filled pasties amid the kitsch of Lady Scarlett’s Tea Parlour.

And there’s more
There is plenty of great things in PO38 that Victoria omitted to mention, such as Ventnor Exchange and Ventnor Fringe Festival, both of which have changed the town for the better over the past 10-15 years.
There are a plethora of independent retailers in PO38 postcodes who help make the area interesting and diverse, not to mention the incredible eateries such as Ventnor Terrace Rooms and Wine, Smoking Lobster, True Food Kitchen, Cantina and loads more.
