Displaced Ukrainians take part in Walk the Wight whilst being shown normality, security and the pleasure of life

Congratulations to the thousands of people who on Sunday took part in Walk the Wight for Mountbatten.

Isle of Wight councillor for Totland and Colwell, Chris Jarman, was one of those taking part, but this year he was joined by some special guests.

Jarman: The group of us completed the ‘final push’ together
Cllr Jarman has two displaced Ukrainian families staying with him. He explains,

“As usual I did the walk from Bembridge, but this time I booked our two Ukrainian families to meet myself and a colleague at Freshwater Bay.

“My wife, Barbara, escorted them to Freshwater Bay and the group of us completed the ‘final push’ together.”

Jarman: It’s such a pleasure to show them normality, security and pleasure of life
Cllr Jarman added,

“It was a wonderful opportunity to show our Ukrainian families the stunning Tennyson Down and Alum Bay. They were perhaps a little stunned to receive a medal at Alum Bay – it demanded quite some explanation.

“It’s such a pleasure to show them normality, security and pleasure of life on our beautiful Island.”
