Donation of bladder scanners completes full set

Thanks to George for this latest news from the Friends of St Mary’s Hospital. Ed

The purchase by the Friends of St Mary’s Hospital of two portable ultrasound bladder scanners ensures that continence service can be much more effective and efficient when carrying out assessments of people in their homes.

Vlasta with Bladder ScannerTogether costing £12,000, the scanners mean that there is now a scanner for each of the four NHS continence advisers on the Island.

One of the advisers, Vlasta Turjanicova, explained at her hospital office that the scanners measure the residue volume of urine in the bladder.

The new scanners give an immediate accurate assessment of patients in their homes, something that could not be done when the two advisers without scanners carried out a visit.

She said,

“We are very grateful to the Friends.

“The extra scanners have made a massive difference to the service we provide, increasing the likelihood of good treatment outcomes.”
