Visit historic gardens loved by poets and writers and be inspired by new offerings at Bonchurch Open Gardens 8th-9th July 2023 (1-5pm).

Don’t miss this rare chance to see the secret gardens of historic Bonchurch.

Private gardens are open for two days only, allowing visitors to see unique planting and design and enjoy an old-fashioned strawberry cream tea on Spring Vale lawn in the heart of the village.

Two days of horticultural heaven
Long renowned for its microclimate, unique topography and inventive planting, Bonchurch’s annual open gardens kicks off on 8th July for two days of horticultural heaven.

Garden lovers will have once-a-year access to some of the most beautiful gardens in the UK, exploring the picturesque village loved by many famous Island visitors and residents, including Swinburne, Dickens, Thackeray, Tennyson, Keats and even Ghandi.

17 open gardens
There are 17 gardens open this year, some for the first time ever. Visitors will enjoy discovering unusual exotic plants set against the beautiful landscape and period architecture of the village.

Plants on sale
There will be plants on sale from an established plantsman as well as several gardeners selling progeny from some of their prized plants.

Entry is £5 for the two days and includes a detailed map and free shuttle bus for those who find the Shute too steep.

BCA: We expect to top last year’s record takings
The Bonchurch Community Association commented,

“We are delighted to welcome visitors from all over the UK who have this annual event inked in their diaries.

“This year a proportion of the ticket sales will be donated to support local charities and we expect to top last year’s record takings.”
