Facebook campaign seeks Isle of Wight independence from Hampshire

A campaign to separate the Isle of Wight from Hampshire on Facebook has been launched, gaining increasing support with over 1% of the population now Liking the Page.

The Isle of Wight is NOT in Hampshire page was set up by Islander Phil Jennings who said,

“I’m attempting to get Facebook to recognise the Isle of Wight as a county. I’m fed up with Totland, and other places appearing as ‘Hampshire’ or Portsmouth, when you try to set a location, or check-in.”

On the Facebook Page which has now has over 1,500 Likes, Phil says,

“Facebook still seem to think that much of the Isle of Wight is either in Hampshire or a part of Portsmouth. This page, is an attempt to gather enough support, and evidence, to have Facebook look into their location settings, for the Island.

“We aren’t here to knock the Council, the MP, or anyone else, it’s a bit of fun, which will hopefully have an outcome that hopefully gives the Island it’s independent county status back in the realm of Facebook.”
