Following yesterday’s flood alerts for the Isle of Wight, namely for the Eastern Yar and Monktonmead Brook, the Environment Agency have issued an update for the former.
Today’s (Wednesday) alert reads:
The water level in the Eastern Yar remains high, but at Alverstone, it is now falling, currently at a rate of 2 cm per hour.
At Sandown, the river has peaked and the level is stable, though it should begin to fall this morning (Wednesday 30/06/21).
Today, the weather will remain dry, which will give water levels a good chance to recover. Some flood impacts to gardens and roads are expected to continue, though this will improve throughout the day.
Further heavy showers
Tomorrow (Thursday 01/07/21) and Friday (02/07/21) further heavy showers are possible across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Given how sensitive the river will be to further rainfall, these showers will be monitored closely.Tomorrow, depending on the updated weather forecast assessment, we may look to remove this Flood Alert.
Remain prepared for potential further flood
However, we would still like residents to remain prepared for potential further flood impacts this week. This message will be updated or removed by 12:00 on Thursday 01/07/21.
See the Environment Agency Website to stay up to date with the alert.
