FlyBe Policy On Military Regalia Reversed Thanks To Isle of Wight War Veteran

Here’s one that will spark a ‘Victor Meldrew “I don’t believe it!”‘ moment for many.

Alec PenstoneThe BBC are reporting that World War II veteran from the Isle of Wight, Alec Penstone, who was travelling to Jersey to take part in Liberation Day celebration, was told that he could not take his military standard flag on the flight unless he paid an extra £60.

The pensioner, who told the BBC that he’d travelled around the world with the flag and never had a problem before, could not afford the extra cash, so had to travel without his military regalia.

Made complaint upon return
Pursuing the charge with FlyBe upon his return, he told the firm, “if it was not for veterans like me, planes would be bearing a Nazi Swastika logo”.

This story does have a happy ending, because as a result of Mr Penstone’s complaints, FlyBe have now changed its policy and will no longer charge for military regalia within the 20kg baggage limit.

Hurrah!
