Benefits Street caused a lot of controversy when it was shown on Channel 4.
That was filmed in Birmingham, but the follow-up programme might be coming a little closer to the Isle of Wight, as the programme’s producers are saying they’re looking at Southampton.
Up-ing the controversy
They’re clearly looking to be even more controversial this time, as the working title for new programme is ‘Immigration Street’.
The road that they’re currently looking at is Derby Road in Southampton, the BBC reports.
Why Derby Road?
“We thought Derby Road was an interesting area that reflects what happens when immigrants move into an area and change the look of an area,” Kieran Smith of Love Productions, the company who would make the show, told the BBC.
He also said it was in “the very early stages” and had yet to be commissioned.
