Former pupil sees bright future for Cowes Enterprise College

Thanks to Jed for sharing this news with OnTheWight readers. Ed

Last Tuesday, former Cowes Enterprise College student and Head Boy, Jed Dwight, returned to his former high school to speak to A Level students.

Jed, who himself was born and schooled on the Island, is best-known for his interest in poultry, but has also had an ever growing interest in politics, and following this May’s General Election moved over to Sussex to work for Lewes MP, Maria Caulfield.

Jed: “Indebted to Cowes Enterprise College”
Jed said,

“I feel indebted to Cowes Enterprise College, which I feel provided me with the perfect environment for success.

“My hobby as a poultry fancier has opened more doors than I ever could have anticipated, and Cowes always allowed me the flexibility to ensure that my hobby remained a crucial part of my life.

“Naturally I was therefore keen to give something back, small as it is, by speaking to some of the students, and letting them know the path that I took, which included taking an apprenticeship with a local Lettings Agent, rather than taking the usual route to University.”

Working in politics
Jed used his time with the A Level students to speak about life working in politics, including some of today’s key debates – students participating in a vote on Action in Syria and the Island having a tunnel or bridge.

Aiming high, taking pride in your hobbies and never shying away from taking a route that might seem unconventional were among the key messages that the former student looked to put to those in attendance, stating that each can help to make students stand out from the crowd later on.

Following his speech, Jed was given a tour of the state-of-the-art new school building by A Level students, Henry Pritchett and Jacob Burland.

Bright future for Cowes Enterprise College
Speaking after the visit, Jed said,

“It was a pleasure to walk around the new school building and see the fantastic facilities that are at the students disposal.

“I was given the impression that like myself, the students at Cowes are getting the very best education and opportunities, as well as spending their day to day life in a great environment.

“The majority of challenges now in the past, I think that, from what I have seen, the future of Cowes Enterprise College couldn’t be brighter.”
