Garden canopy at West Wight Sports Centre would allow for more outdoor classes

A canopy structure could be built at the West Wight Sports Centre, in Freshwater.

Managers at the much-loved community and leisure venue on the Isle of Wight want to use it to offer outdoor exercise classes, but undercover.

To allow for outdoor classes
The plans, submitted to the Isle of Wight Council, say people are naturally more cautious about spending time in closed spaces after Covid-19, especially when it leads to increased breathing and exposure to germs.

The canopy, which would be built in the garden, would allow classes to take place outdoors, even when the weather is temperamental.

Planning agent, Simon Craddock from SJC Planning, says the idea is appealing for classes that benefit from a more natural and tranquil setting, like yoga, and not high energy workouts or aerobics.
