DeWalt DrillPolice are investigating a report of hundreds of pounds worth of tools being stolen from a van parked on the Isle of Wight.

Someone smashed the glass on the passenger side door of a small Daihatsu van parked in Newnham Road in Binstead near Ryde.

£500 worth of tools stolen
£500 worth of tools was then stolen and the steering wheel removed sometime between 9pm on Wednesday, June 13, and 8am on Thursday, June 14, 2012.

Tools reported stolen include:

  • A Stanley’s large tool box (large black box with yellow wheels). Inside was a variety of hammers, chisels, saws and drill pieces worth approximately £300
  • A second box reported stolen was a ‘DeWalt’ black and yellow box, which has the name ‘Rob’ on it. Inside is a DeWalt 18v drill worth approximately £200
  • The third box stolen is a DeWalt drill set which is worth approximately £30-£40
  • The steering wheel had a Daihatsu logo on it and part of the logo has been scratched out by the owner and is therefore easily identifiable.

Appeal for witnesses
Investigating officer PC James Senior said: “This is a particularly busy road and it is believed that the offender would have been inside the vehicle for a considerable time. I am therefore appealing to anyone that may have been passing through Binstead and noticed anyone acting suspiciously.

“Due to the fact that the items stolen are particularly unique, I am also appealing to anyone that may have been offered them or may be able to assist in my enquiries.

“Although vehicle crime in Ryde remains particularly low, I am keen to remind residents to remove any tools from their vehicles when parked overnight.”
