Islander Charlie Head rescues stranded dog from drowning during paddleboard challenge

Bembridge water sports fanatic Charlie Head hits the nationals this week during his 600 mile stand up paddleboard (SUP) challenge.

We missed Charlie when he recently stopped off at his home village in Bembridge during a challenge to stand up paddleboard from Cornwall to London.

But Charlie didn’t make the news this week specifically because of his challenge, which he says is a warm-up for a 3,000 mile cross-Atlantic trip in a one-man rowing boat, but due to saving a Shih Tzu puppy from drowning.

Charlie had spotted the dog stranded on rocks at the end of a groyne, as he passed the Kent coastline on his way to London.

He detoured just in time to save the little mite and managed to film it all.

Charlie says in the video that ten minutes later, and the dog, which he later found out was named Bam Bam, would have drowned.
