Isle of Wight Council launch ‘self-build register’

Building your fantasy home has just got easier with the launch of a new Self-build Register set up by Isle of Wight Council.

The register will enable the council to match up people and available plots as they become available.

Register online
Anyone interested in building their own home is being asked to use the simple online form to register their interest in acquiring serviced plots of land on the island in order to build or commission their own home.

The council will then use the information on the register to inform its approach when it undertakes its planning, housing, land disposal and regeneration functions.

The register is part of a wider commitment to the Government objective of enabling more people to build or commission their own home and reduce reliance on large housebuilders, therefore broadening housing options.

Meeting government requirements
Executive member for planning, Councillor Julia Baker-Smith, said:

“Introducing our Self-build Register helps us meet government requirements and will help us understand the level of interest in this as a way of contributing to boosting homebuilding on the Isle of Wight.

“I would like to encourage people or groups who wish to build their own homes and landowners to get involved, to help support local housing market growth.”

Further information regarding the register and how to apply to be on the register can be found online.
