Letter: Honour for former Post Office head sparks debate amid ongoing scandal

This from Hans Bromwich, Cowes. Ed

We saw how the Metropolitan Police were very reluctant to investigate Partygate. It was only after the huge public outcry they very belatedly changed their position from one of protecting and turning a blind eye to wrong doing, to investigating and prosecuting what they must have known was going on all the time.

Similarly, given what we now know about the appalling injustice metered out to totally innocent Post Masters, and the revelations that senior officials knew that there were faults with the horizon system and that convictions were potentially unsafe, but nevertheless pursed cases vigorously, why are the Police not knocking on Paula Vennells door?

Might it be that she was acting under orders to cover things up, and if so, who would that be precisely, the government and owners of the Post Office perhaps. Surely there’s a prima facie case for perverting the course of justice?

It’s like we are living in a mafia state
The government is acting very slowly when it comes to returning the £100,000s wrongfully sitting in Post Office accounts. It’s like we are living in a mafia state.

Where are the police in all of this? Is it another situation where they see their role as turning a blind eye and protect senior people if they are attempting to cover up wrong doing in an organisation that’s owned by the government?

Stinks from top to bottom
Why was Paula Vennells rewarded with a CBE, and on leaving the Post Office given a lucrative job heading up an NHS Trust?

Thanks for a job well done at the time perhaps?

This whole saga stinks from top to bottom.
