Letter: Why does becoming a Police and Crime Commissioner cost applicants £5,000?

This from Robert Hood, Ed

Have you ever stopped to ask yourself why,  as an applicant for the position of Police and Crime Commissioner, £5,000 must be paid prior to being selected for this role.

This fraud discriminates against many good, qualified people from applying for this role.

There is nothing more sinister than jobs for the boys, which this clearly is.

What other job in the UK attracts such a payment in advance?

Where does this £5,000 go after the election and if it’s returned to the candidates, it makes the process appear even more corrupt.
