Isle of Wight councillors debate Newport City Status, mobile average speed cameras, Climate Emergency Bill and more: Detailed report

News OnTheWight reported live from the Isle of Wight council’s (IWC) full council meeting on Wednesday evening.

Starting with 15 mins for public questions, the meeting saw a a petition being presented to the council about plans for the Ryde Interchange calling on IWC to “use the planning process when changing Ryde Esplanade”.

As well as the chairman’s official announcements, the leader’s update report and questions, members were asked to restore the voting rights of the co-opted IWALC (Isle of Wight Association of Local Councils) member on the Corporate Scrutiny Committee and to approve the review of political proportionality of committees (see the agenda for full details).

There were also three motions presented by Cllrs Martin Oliver (Newport City Status), Steve Hastings (mobile average speed cameras) and Joe Lever (support Climate and Ecological Emergency Bill).

It ended with Member Question Time of the leader.
