Emma shares this great news from the Earl Mountbatten Hospice. Ed
A man from Lake, who has taken part in Walk the Wight nine times, has won a holiday after entering a prize draw during this year’s iconic event.
Paul Johnson’s name was among those who entered the competition, which was open to anyone who raised over £100 in sponsorship. His prize is a self-guided walking break for two adults, courtesy of walking and activity holiday specialist, hfholidays.co.uk
“A great surprise”
Paul walked the first half from Bembridge to Carisbrooke and managed to raise £145. He said:
“I have walked the Wight nine times so far, and I started in 2008. I decided to Walk the Wight as so many of my family and friends were suffering from life-limiting illnesses.”
On hearing of his win, Paul commented:
“My reaction to winning the prize was ‘wow!’- I’ve hardly ever won anything before in my life, so it was a great surprise. I’m looking forward to taking a break with my partner.”
£7m per year to run the Hospice
Walk the Wight makes a significant contribution towards the £7m needed each year to run the Newport-based hospice and our community services right across the Island.
Although this year’s total is not yet known, as sponsorship is still being sent in, the target is £300,000 and so far more than half of that target has been received from participants.
Let us have your sponsorship money
Anyone who has yet to submit their hard-earned fundraising is urged to do so, and this can be done in several ways:
You can hand in your sponsorship money to any of the ten Earl Mountbatten Hospice shops across the Island
Or send your cash and cheques (made payable to ‘Earl Mountbatten Hospice’) directly to the hospice.
You can also make a payment by BACS transfer: Account number 1417 7811, Sort Code 54-10-34, Reference [your walker number]
In all cases, make sure you quote your Walker Number and don’t forget to hand in your sponsorship form so the hospice can claim the appropriate Gift Aid. Last year’s Gift Aid claim for Walk the Wight boosted the total raised by over £50,000!
