Ocean Hotel: All those involved ordered to attend court in person

The saga of the Isle of Wight’s derelict Ocean Hotel rumbles on, with another court date set.

The matter will be back in court on 10th November and today (Friday) a judge ordered all those involved to attend in person.

Sandown’s biggest eyesore
Sandown’s biggest eyesore has been the subject of legal action since February 2022, when the Isle of Wight council issued a tidy-up order to Phoenix Commercial Property Development (PCPD).

The authority required the property company to make the seafront hotel safe and secure, but PCPD appealed the notice.

The matter has been going through the courts ever since.

Appeal rejected
Isle of Wight Magistrates threw out the appeal, before PCPD itself appealed that decision at Durham Crown Court.

A judge in Durham ruled the case needed to be heard on the Island, so it was sent to the Isle of Wight Crown Court.

Former PCPD director on video link
Today, 15th September 2023, former PCPD director, Stephen Purvis, appeared on behalf of the company via video link to hear the new date set.

PCPD sold the freehold of the Ocean Hotel in 2022.
