It's World Autism Awareness Day and many people on the Isle of Wight are hoping this year sees a turnaround in the support given to children on the spectrum.

Angela Murphy from the Isle of Wight CCG will update members this week on the backlog of autism assessments, including details about a pilot to assess 50 children using an online programme.
The new interim head of the Isle of Wight CCG said they "are absolutely understanding of the stress this has caused children and their families", but added there was a national shortage of experience in this area.

This Isle of Wight teenager said, "I felt like no-one was listening and so what’s the point in being here? It felt like it couldn’t get any worse. I could not keep waking up each morning and feeling this way. I felt trapped in a cycle of negativity."
Cllr Paul Brading called the organisation of the meeting shambolic, with parents forced to sit on the floor and it being revealed ‘nothing has changed since April’.
