Your view of Portsmouth could be dramatically changed when you leave the ferry terminal

If plans that have just been submitted are accepted, the skyline of Portsmouth and the view from The Hard in Portsmouth could be quite different.

International design practice, Scott Brownrigg, have designed a 38-storey tower to replace a currently unused 12-storey rectangular 1960s block.

Students and apartments
The dramatic Brunel House would house 512 student bedrooms (Floors 1 – 19) and 329 residential apartments spanning the full 38 floors.

Shops would also be on the ground floor, with a six metre ceiling height.

“Exciting proposal”
The BBC has a quote from the Portsmouth Society planning officer, John Holland, who described the plans as an “exciting proposal”. They also reported that in the planning application, Bouygues Development said the cost of including affordable housing would make the proposed “development unviable”.

Full details of the planning application can be found on Portsmouth City’s Council’s Website.
