Points gained for Wightlink-LCM Systems cyclist Ed Sutton

Our thanks to Jack for this latest report from the Wightlink-LCM Systems Cycle Race Team. Ed

On Sunday 8th June, Wightlink-LCM Systems Cycle Race Team rider Edward Sutton lined up in the Shaftesbury Town Centre third category race amongst approximately 30 other riders. The race was set to run for 35 minutes around the 650 metre course with some tight corners and some rugged road surfaces.

Sutton started quite far back in the peloton and had to work hard to move up to the front for a few laps. The peloton soon became very fractured due to the tight corners on the course which one rider came down on.

Seeing there was a group of two riders off the front Sutton dug deep to bridge the gap, upon reaching the two riders Sutton began to work with them each taking turns on the front and soon gaining a lap on the field.

The final lap came and Sutton was in a good position for the finish. Unfortunately on the last corner he went wide, losing time on the two other riders. Rolling across the line Sutton comfortably claimed third place, and got yet more points towards his second category licence.

Ludgershall hosted summer series race
On the evening of Monday 9th June, two more Wightlink-LCM Systems CRT riders travelled to Ludgershall in Dorset for the second of the summer series races. Matt Allsopp and James Ebdon competed in the third category race of 40 minutes plus five laps: the Island pair was up against 58 other riders.

After a gentle start to the race, Allsopp and Ebdon both attacked together and quickly made a gap over the bunch. After three laps of the 800 metre track another rider joined the pair and they worked well together.

Unfortunately this move was brought back by the bunch and the pair waited for the sprint finish.

Coming into the last lap, Allsopp led Ebdon out into the last corner keeping him towards the front of the bunch. Using his fast finish Ebdon took fourth place on the line; Allsopp did a great job for his team mate and then took sixth place himself.
