Police Appeal For Driver’s Identity After Collision

Magnifying glassPolice are appealing for information to identify a driver as an investigation continues into a road traffic collision in Shanklin on the Isle of Wight.

At around 10.15am on Monday, April 2, 2012, an 82-year-old pedestrian was walking along the left-hand side of Regent Street when he started to cross the road at the junction with St. Paul’s Crescent.

Officers are investigating a report that a vehicle turned right into St Paul’s Crescent from Regent Street and a collision took place.

The 82-year-old man fell into the road where he received minor grazes to his elbows. It’s also reported the driver stopped and gave first aid. This woman remained with the injured pedestrian until an ambulance arrived.

Did not leave personal details
Investigating officer PC Geoff Turner of the Isle of Wight Roads Policing Unit said: “Initial enquiries suggest the woman did not leave any personal details at the scene but said she would report the collision to the police. When officers arrived at the scene, the driver had left.

“We’re appealing for this woman, anyone who knows her, and any witnesses to contact the Roads Policing Unit at Shanklin.”
