Police Stop Man In Car With Suspected Handgun

Update 15.Aug 18:09: Added link to Airsoft explanation

Thanks to Keith Carroll who contacted VentnorBlog earlier today, letting us know that he’d seen a large number of Police pull over the car in Sandown.

CamouflageKeith saw that the man inside was wearing camouflage gear and once out of his vehicle was cuffed by the Police and his car searched.

From Keith’s view, what looked like a rifle and some other things were removed from the vehicle by the Police, as he said, “by the amount of Police on scene, this looks a very serious situation!”

VB contacted the Police to learn that, it wasn’t as serious as it initially looked.

Speaking to the Police, they tell VB that they were acting on information from the public who had reporting seeing a man with a handgun.

Firearms officers stopped and searched the car, detaining a 66 year old man for possessing a firearm in a public place without lawful authority or reasonable excuse. It was later discovered to be an Airsoft weapon.

The man still remains in custody.
