Primrose Deli, Newport: A Fantastic Festive Find

Have you heard about the new delicatessen in Newport? It’s quite a find.

Primrose Deli, Newport: Exterior - Christmas 2011Sally took over the shop at 14 Holyrood Street and having persuaded husband Will to strip back its previous detritus, a beautiful shop interior has been revealed. They’ve called it Primrose Deli.

Inside she’s picked delicious, tempting food – special things, ideal for Christmas, when having those treats for families and friends can make a really difference. The kind of touches that transform it from a standard event to a really special occasion.

We discovered Primrose Deli after popping in there in search of good cheese and came out very happy. Us having Tweeted our visit, it was great to hear from Sally on our second visit that they’d been people coming in saying that they’d heard about it from the VB Tweets.

Frankly it’s hard to enter the shop and not be tempted by some of the things in there.

Primrose Deli, Newport: Christmas 2011Great for Christmas Gifts
If it’s Christmas presents you’re looking for, you’re also in for a treat. Our eyes were particularly grabbed by the ‘make your own Cookies’ kits that contain all ingredients needed except some butter and an egg. The whole thing comes in a single preserve jar. Perfect.

There’s also handled Hessian bags containing one or two Isle of Wight cheeses, and various preserves, even coming complete with a Merry Christmas tag. A delight to receive and a cinch to buy.

New Year
If you’re planning to have friends over for your New Year celebrations and want to spoil them with little food treats, you’ll need to by them before Christmas too.

Sally’s taking a well-deserved rest over Christmas, re-opening Primrose Deli after the New Year.
