Sainsbury’s Newport is on the lookout for a new Local Charity partner after raising £4,652 for Breathe Easy Isle of Wight Branch.

Local residents in Newport have the chance to find Sainsbury’s Isle of Wight a new local charity to support. It’s the fifth year of the retailer’s ‘Local Charity partner’ initiative, which gives local registered charities the chance to receive a year’s worth of fundraising and awareness support from store colleagues.

Among the highlights of the partnership, was a Santa’s Grotto at Christmas that raised £891 and a quiz night which raised £424.

Savage: “Has made such a difference to our cause”
Andrew Savage from Breathe Easy said:

“Working with Sainsbury’s Newport Isle of Wight over the last 12 months has made such a difference to our cause. We’ve raised a fantastic amount which we’re using towards Breathe Easy and we’re now looking forward to working with them on future opportunities.

“As confirmed all monies raised through our partnership with Sainsbury’s will be split across many areas of Respiratory. Approximately 50% will go to the British Lung Foundation for further medical research into Lung Conditions and supporting the training of specialist BLF Nurses.

“The remaining 50% will be used locally in purchasing various items of medical equipment including specialist oxygen sats monitors, nebulisers, inhaler technique machines. Physio equipment including walkers, mini exercise bikes and other gym equipment for Pulmonary Rehab and BLF Active Exercise Classes in the hospital and in the community. Also it is planned to set up the Respiratory Gym with a TV Monitor plus Wi-Fit Programs to improve balance, co-ordination and stamina.”

Nominate in person or online
Alongside nomination forms and a drop-in box, available in-store from Wednesday 1st May, for the first time, customers can nominate online, either via downloading a voting form via Sainsbury’s Website or emailing their nomination to [email protected].

Sainsbury’s Newport Isle of Wight Store Manager Paul Dyer added:

“Our work with previous Local Charity partners over the years has been really successful in letting our customers have their say. We hope our customers can take the time to vote in the coming weeks and give a local charity that’s close to their hearts the chance for us to support them.”

The winning charity will be announced in June.
