Salty’s: Police Call For Premises Licence Review

The premises licence for Salty’s in Yarmouth is under review following a request from the Police.

The Police say the review is necessary in relation to the ‘Prevention of Crime and Disorder’, ‘Public Safety’ and the ‘Prevention of Public Nuisance’.

Excessive noise from the venue, customers urinating against nearby properties and fireworks being let off into the street are just a few of the complaints made by neighbouring businesses.

Dancing not authorised
A report released last week reveals that when Police visited the premises officers saw customers dancing on the floor, on chairs and also on tables.

They raised concern that “no attempt was made by staff to stop this. The ‘provision of facilities for dancing’ is not an authorised activity on the premises licence.”

The Police consider the premises unsuitable for dancing, whether it be on the floor, chairs or tables as they say the space is “fairly confined and busy”.

Anti-social behaviour reported
Also revealed in the report is a complaint by the Police of “anti-social behaviour of customers both inside and outside the premises” with incidents of “criminal damage to a neighbouring premises, excessive noise, the setting off of fireworks in the street and littering”.

The review will be heard by the Licensing (Determinsation) Sub-Committee on 1 November. The report (with links to appendices) is embedded below for your convenience.
