Smart Living: Here to Help You

Are you, or do you know someone who needs to be looked after, in no matter how small a way?

Helping in the kitchen:We’ve got some good news. There are various pieces of technology around that can help make life that bit easier and more safe.

These days lots of people are responsible for looking after people – be they a child; a paid carer; a relative; a family friend; neighbour, or even yourself.

So any additional help to make life easier and more comfortable is a good thing.

Smart Living
Did you know there’s a charity offering these technologies on the Isle of Wight that will make this easier?

Having established itself in Hampshire, Smart Living – part of the care and support charity YOU – has brought itself to the Island to offer their knowledge and experience.

You may have seen or heard of them at some of the events they’ve done at the Riverside Centre.

Find out what’s available
Often you don’t know how you could be helped because you don’t know what’s available.

Elderly couple:Luckily Smart Living provide a free, no-obligation assessment, suggesting which devices they have that could make things easier for either the person, or those who look after them. So why not get in touch with them?

They tell us that they don’t stick to one technology provider, giving the assurance that the best equipment will be used in each situation.

Fortunately there’s no large up-front charge, as the equipment is leased. Payments can also be taken from a personal budget.

How they can help
We asked them for a few varied examples of a number of the devices available and they gave us the following

  • A lifeline unit – a portable alert button, that can be worn around the neck, quickly and simply calling help when its needed.
  • Portable GPS alarms – very helpful for those who want to remain active and mobile, but have some form of dementia.
  • Epilepsy Sensors – can alert carers to the user having a seizure via a pager.

Pretty diverse, so why not get in touch with them to see if they can make your life easier.
