St Helens Village Fayre This Sunday

Many thanks to Caroline for sending through details of Sunday’s annual Village Fayre in St Helens. In her own words. Ed

Visit St Helens Village Fair This SundayThe village of St Helens becomes a hive of activity on Sunday June 26.

The football pitch becomes the arena and market area with the fabulous, eye-catching red uniforms of the Medina Marching Band who will march along Upper Green Road and into the arena at 10.30am.

There is a rolling programme of activities throughout the day, highlights include two displays by White Falconry at 11am and 2pm where you can watch the magnificent birds of prey fly overhead and hear an informative talk about them.

Music and dance
There is music and dancing from St Helens Primary School, the Unidos Samba Band and Boyd O’Dowda Irish Dancers who each have a set in the arena.

At 1.30pm the Police Drug Dogs will give a display and later we have Crackers the Clown who will keep the children amused from 2.30pm.

Bagpipes rounds off proceedings
Finally, St Helens doctor Kieron Cooney swaps his white coat for a tartan kilt as he plays the bagpipes to round off proceedings from 3pm.

The Green in St Helens is ideal for this kind of event, there is ample parking on the green opposite the community centre and a vast array of new goods and charity stalls from soap and jewellery to cakes around the arena.

Car boot sale on cricket pitch
The cricket pitch will be the site of a huge, all day car boot stall. The usual Sunday Car Boot Sale on West Green will not be on today.

There is no need to book in advance for the Village Fayre Car Boot Sale, you can arrive on the day but not too early please, from 8am and pitches are £10.

Lots more on offer
There will be several static displays here including sheep shearing, the IW Youth Circus and metal detecting.

Anyone who has an interest in gardening can pay to visit the ‘Secret Gardens’ of several private houses in the village – you will be amazed to see the hard work that has gone into gardens ranging from small cottage gardens to large country homes!
