Staff at a hotel in Shanklin have shown their support for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital by raising £1,500.

James Helyer, who works at the Medehamstede hotel, and his partner Magdalena, were so pleased with the care their son, Joshua, received in the unit they wanted to give something back. James, together with the bar staff at the hotel, helped to raise the money through collections and raffles.

Receiving the donation, Sister Pamela George, said: “This is a fantastic sum of money for us. We are planning to purchase another warming mattress which enables babies to come out of an incubator quicker and be transferred into a normal cot on the maternity ward alongside mum.”

The presentation took place on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit on Wednesday 3rd April 2013.
