Surfers Against Sewage paddle-out protest planned for Sandown Beach in May

Surfers Against Sewage is calling on Isle of Wight residents to join a nationwide day of action on Saturday 16th May 2026, with a paddle-out protest scheduled at Sandown Beach from 3.30pm to 5.30pm.

The event forms part of a UK-wide demonstration demanding an end to sewage pollution in the country’s waterways, rivers and coastal waters.

Organisers say sewage continues to be discharged into British waterways, with data on the scale of pollution remaining incomplete.

Inclusive event for water lovers of all abilities
The protest welcomes participants beyond those who want to enter the water. Land-based photo moments will form a key part of the event, allowing people who feel less confident in the water to take part visibly alongside those paddling out.

Surfers Against Sewage is encouraging environmentalists and water lovers of all kinds – not just surfers – to attend lakes, beaches and rivers across the UK to show their opposition to sewage pollution.

Join the action at Sandown
The Sandown Beach paddle-out takes place on Saturday 16th May from 3.30pm to 5.30pm.
