On Monday 27th June, Bishop Lovett Middle School started a music project funded by the national lottery through the big lottery fund.

The task was to compose and record an original song and film a music video as a school to go with the finished track. All in all, the students had only four days to do what takes professional musicians weeks or even months!

Around 20 students were involved in the composition, writing the melody, deciding on the chords and combining instruments to develop a brand new meaningful song.

Eccleston George lend a hand
Several experienced and talented musicians from the public art group Eccleston George came in throughout the week to lead the composition and song writing experience. A group of singers were chosen from year six, seven and eight to write the lyrics and create the melody of a verse, pre-chorus and chorus.

All of the instruments including keyboards, saxophones, flutes, clarinets and guitars, played by the children, were brought together with the singers to produce the finished song.

Recording the music video
On Friday 30th, the whole of the school gathered on the lush green fields to work magic for the recording of the music video.

The finished song blasted through the speakers as the professional camera crew recorded the school singing the pre-chorus.

The air buzzed with excitement as the students smiled into the camera and sang passionately: ‘We’re still here!’ A DVD will be produced of the finished piece with the DVD cover and back also designed by students in the school.

Once in a lifetime opportunity
Inside its cover, pupils in year eight have written memories about their favourite experiences throughout their time at Bishop Lovett.

This project has been a once in a lifetime opportunity for many pupils.
