Many thanks to the Rainbow Cafe for supporting VB by sponsoring this feature and allowing us to continue providing news to you for free.
If you thought Godshill was all about cute thatched cottages and cream teas, you clearly haven’t discovered its latest addition, the Rainbow Cafe.
We popped over there last week to chat to Nichola and Da who, after a long period of conversion from its previous incarnation as the Christmas Cottage, have created something of an oasis in the hustle and bustle of Godshill village.
Sitting there tucked away just up Church Hollow off the High Street, looking over the extensive menu of home-made food, listening to the claiming music floating around the light, airy building, it struck us that we hadn’t ever noticed that Godshill was quite so frantic. The contrast at the Rainbow Cafe couldn’t be more marked. It’s a complete tonic.
Very relaxing
I went along with our daughter and even after an hour after we left, she was still commenting how relaxed she felt – quite an achievement.
It’s not just a wide selection of home-made and gluten-free foods available there to enjoy, because if you’re a fan of good coffee, you’re going to love the high-quality Illy coffee served alongside the selection of teas and cakes – again home-made.
Art Courses too
If art’s your thing, no matter what your level is, the art course run by Nichola Gibbs will appeal (check out her Website). They’re open to people of all ages and abilities, with children particularly welcome.
One of the great services that Nichola offers is an ‘Art Creche’. Parents who want some time by themselves can drop their little loved ones off and not only will they be well looked after, but will benefit from flexing their artistic talents as Nichola guides them through exploring their artistic side. Completed art works can either be taken home, or offered for sale at the cafe, if the urge takes.
Art classes are a very reasonable £12.50 and for that you get a full hour and a half of tuition and guidance from Nicola and it includes the art materials. You can stay longer, for a pro-rata charge.
Give it a go
Let’s be frank, Godshill isn’t a place that generally at the top of Islanders lists of must go to-s – it’s broadly seen as a place visitors go to.
There are not many places on the Island that we’ve been to like the Rainbow Cafe. It has much to offer – and that’s even before they start offering relaxation therapies there, which is planned.
We found the whole experience of being there really relaxing and give it a VB recommendation.
