Fastcat propellers ‘damaged by debris in the Solent’ – prompting morning travel delays (updated)

Passengers on the Wightlink Fastcat service are experiencing 30 minute delays this morning following a technical issue with one of their craft.

Travellers expecting to catch the 8.45am crossing from Ryde were told over the PA System that a propeller had fallen off the vessel during the previous crossing.

Damaged by debris in the Solent
A spokesperson told News OnTheWight,

“Earlier this morning one of Wight Ryder 2’s propellers was damaged during its crossing to Ryde Pier. It’s believed it was caused by debris in the Solent.

“Wight Ryder 2 has been withdrawn for inspection and has been replaced by Wight Ryder 1.

“The service will be back on time from the 09:45 sailing from Ryde .”

Diverted to Hover service
Passengers were taken to the Hover terminal instead where large queues are forming.

Wightlink’s live timetables show a 30 minute delay in other crossing this morning.
