Bembridge residents invited to co-design the village’s climate future at Saturday workshop

Residents, community groups, businesses and local organisations across Bembridge are being invited to help shape a shared vision for the village’s future at the upcoming Community Climate Action Workshop, delivered by Bembridge Parish Council in partnership with Community Climate Action (CCA).

The workshop follows growing local conversations around resilience, nature and the future of communities, including the recent screening in Bembridge of the People’s Emergency Briefing – a nationally coordinated initiative bringing together leading experts to present the latest evidence on climate and nature challenges and what communities can do in response.

What the workshop will cover
Rather than focusing only on problems, the workshop will explore practical opportunities for local action – from energy and homes to food, transport, biodiversity and community wellbeing – helping residents identify priorities and co-design projects that can strengthen Bembridge now and for future generations.

The event is designed to be participatory and accessible, bringing together residents alongside local “anchor institutions” such as schools, community groups, businesses, sports clubs, faith organisations and local councils.

A village ready to act
Councillor Graham Stoddart-Stones said,

“The recent National Emergency Briefing screening gave many people the opportunity to consider the wider challenges facing society, but also highlighted something important – solutions become meaningful when they are translated into local action.

“Bembridge has a strong sense of community and a remarkable range of skills and experience. This workshop is about bringing people together to discuss practical ideas, identify opportunities and help shape the future of our village.”

The workshop will use facilitated activities to help participants explore shared values, map community strengths and identify achievable actions that can make a positive difference locally.

Building on community strengths
Julian Thompson, Chief Executive of Community Climate Action, said,

“Communities already hold many of the ingredients needed to build resilience — local knowledge, trusted relationships, practical skills and people who care deeply about where they live.

“The aim isn’t simply to talk about climate change; it’s to create practical pathways for action that strengthen communities, reduce costs, improve wellbeing and help people feel part of shaping their future.

“We often find that once people come together around shared goals, new ideas and partnerships emerge very quickly.”

Community Climate Action has delivered similar workshops with communities, councils and organisations across the UK, helping turn ideas into practical projects and long-term plans.
