We’re pleased to announce the winners of our Library Poetry Competition.
The winner of the children’s prize is Zoe Barrett aged 6, and the adult is Edward Lyon.
The winners are being presented with their prizes at Ventnor Library at 10 o’clock tomorrow (Saturday) and hopefully will read their poems to us. All the poems including the winners will be displayed in the Library until after the New Year.

Goosey Goosey Christmas – PLEASE – by Edward Lyon
I am a turkey.
My future looks murky.
I beg you just grant me one wish.
Don’t lick your lips,
Or I’ve had my chips.
I’ll be trussed, stuffed and served on a dish
I am a turkey;
Childish and perky;
For I am still a raw youth.
I only look giant,
Because I’m compliant,
And when force fed, I eat.
That’s the truth.
I am a turkey;
Occasionally quirky.
I dance about in the buff,
And like Anna Pavlova,
I tone muscles all over,
So, I might be a teensy-weensy bit tough.
I am a turkey.
Don’t think me a shirky.
I’m quite prepared to be carved by your knife,
But surely not yet.
I’ve not “lived” don’t forget;
Stuck here in this cage all my life.
Don’t have a turkey this Chriosmas.
Don’t put my neck in a noose.
For goodness sake,
Give us a break,
And gobble yourself a goose.
Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease.
Down in the stable by Zoe Barrett
Down in the stable where Jesus was born
Outside where the snow falls
lands on the Christmas trees
where Father Christmas delivers
presents that have bows and ribbons
and so many colour, blue, pink,
yellow, black, orange, gold and silver.
In houses children are playing.
In the soft white snow by the Three Kings
snow angels are made.
In the garden in the towns and fields
animals are hibernating.
