During a Ventnor Town Council meeting held behind closed doors on Monday night, the future of the Winter Gardens Concession was discussed and short term action agreed upon.
As a result of the sudden and unexpected resignation of Graham Perks as concessionaire, the Ventnor Town Council have agreed to step in to protect the jobs of those who would have lost their positions at the Winter Gardens’ Bell Bar.
Following advice from the highest levels within the Isle of Wight Council, the Ventnor Town Council have made the decision, in the short term, to take over responsibility for running of the bar and catering facility to ensure it is still available to the town.
This temporary measure will ensure that refreshment and catering facilities are available to visitors to the Winter Gardens over the coming months and all jobs in the bar and kitchen are protected.
We understand that full assessment and consultation will take place over the coming months, with long-term plan anticipated to be proposed by February 2010.
Mr Perks is expected to leave the Winter Gardens on 28th October. His new venue, on the High Street in Ventnor, is expected to open shortly.
