Ventnor’s former Police Station: Decade-long wait ends with housing plans (updated)

Last updated:

A former Isle of Wight police station could become a house.

The building in Ventnor, on Hambrough Road, has been empty for nearly a decade and its closure was part of a review of police-owned properties carried out around 2011. Cowes and Yarmouth stations also closed and Ryde followed later.

In the last few years, what was Ventnor police station was bought by local businessman, Kevin Sussmilch, who also owns adjacent buildings, including neighbouring hotel, The Hambrough, and the Ventnor Winter Gardens, which he bought for £1 from the former Conservative Isle of Wight council.

Plans lodged
Plans have now been lodged, through agent CAD Delta,  to turn the station and attached police house into homes.

The 1960s-built buildings could become semi-detached three-bedroom houses, with gardens and parking.

The public consultation runs until 6th October 2023.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary moved across town, to Dudley Road at Salisbury Gardens, which the force now shares with Ventnor Town Council.
