Views of Islanders with autism and/or learning disabilities sought to help refresh local strategies

The Isle of Wight Council and its partners are seeking the views of Islanders with autism and/or learning disabilities to help refresh local strategies.

The Isle of Wight Autism Partnership Board and the Isle of Wight Learning Disability Partnership Group want to improve the lives of people, helping them to be heard, be safe, and feel confident to be an active part of their community and be involved in service planning.

Review in-line with local needs and new national policies
Two previous strategies have now concluded and are undergoing review in-line with local needs and new national policies.

The Living Well with a Learning Disability on the Isle of Wight strategy (2018-2021) and the Isle of Wight joint strategy for children, young people and adults with Autism Spectrum Condition strategy (2014-2019) need to be updated to ensure they are relevant and of value to local people.

Partnership involvement
Local partners have been involved in co-producing a survey, including the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), the council, People Matter IW, Healthwatch, Isle of Wight NHS Trust, and Autism Inclusion Matters.

The survey aims to find out about people’s experiences of services on the Island and what can be improved.

Love: Anonymous survey will be used to shape Island strategy and priorities
Cllr Karl Love, Cabinet member for adult social care, said,

“We really want to hear from Islanders with autism or learning disabilities, their families and supporters, the people who help to care and support them, so that we can ensure inclusivity and that the steps we take are in line with our community’s needs and aspirations.

“The survey is anonymous and will be used to shape our Island strategy and priorities over the next few years. It really is a very important consultation, and I will be reading your comments and my teams will be responding to your needs wherever we can as the strategies are developed.”

The survey can be completed online. Copies of the survey will also be available from Island libraries or can be collected from County Hall. If you would like support to complete this survey you can contact:
