If you found the Bollywood car chases and action hero stunts too fast for your liking, News OnTheWight reader and contributor, Paul Knights, has something that might be more your pace.
Paul comes up trumps once again (see his previous work) with this latest short film, a delightful and rather touching observation of the work of local shoemaker, Kevin Garlick.
Kevin may be little-known on the Island (outside Ventnor), but his services are sought after from around the Globe.
Knights: Intrigued by the work he did
Paul explains why he chose Kevin as the subject for his latest film,
“Having passed by Kevin’s shop many times over the years, and intrigued by the work he did, I approached him with my request to make a short film.
“Over the course of several weeks I was able to call in, observe, and film snatches of him at work. “
Paul went on to say,
“From the non-descript high street shop which shows no signs of glossy marketing or fancy point-of-sale window displays, to the cluttered and apparent chaos inside, Kevin has been producing beautifully hand-crafted shoes for over thirty years. What started out as a hobby and a passion, developed over time and eventually became his living.
“Taught and mentored by the late master shoemaker – Pietro Cortesi, Kevin’s work has covered a huge variety of both men and women’s footwear styles over the years, with much of his work commissioned by television, film and theatre companies whose costume departments demanded the most authentic footwear and were attracted to his particular focus on historical period footwear.”
