Isle of Wight band, Wet Leg, premiered seven of their new songs at two ‘secret’ gigs on Sunday and Monday nights.

Small venues were chosen for the two gigs which were listed under the pseudonym ‘Uma Thurman’ — however, it was only once you read the description for the gig, it revealed that Uma Thurman (the famous Hollywood actress probably best known for her role as Mia Wallace in Quentin Tarantino’s 1994 cult film, Pulp Fiction) would not be performing.

Eagle-eyed Wet Leg fans who spotted the gig listing would have also recognised the font used for the gig poster as the same used by Wet Leg for their band branding.

Green Door Store
Sunday night saw an intimate sold-out gig at Green Door Store — a great little venue that packs music lovers into a cobbled barn-like room.

There was no support band due to the stage being taken up by the large drum kit and countless pedals, but this just added to the anticipation of Wet Leg revealing some of their new music to their adoring fans.

The audience was made up of many Islanders, some staying over for the night, others making the day trip in order to see one of their favourite bands perform new songs for the first time in public and racing for the midnight ferry afterwards. “Go on nipper,” in a thick Isle of Wight accent was bellowed from the audience on several occasions.

As well as a handful of tracks from the first album, the seven new tracks from the second album were incredibly well received by the audience which rapturous cheers and applause. Just under an hour after the took to the stage, the band departed and left fans wanting more!

The debuted tracks were Fists, Jen Bod, Lovestruck, Dave Nah, Dragonfart, Beans and C3PR.

Although it was a little hard to hear the vocals, Rhian clearly still has the same wit she applied to her songwriting on the first album. Wet Leg fans around the world are going to love the second album.

The MOTH Club
The second ‘secret’ show took place at the MOTH Club in Hackney, London on Monday night.

A larger venue (although still quite intimate) with a different demographic in the audience, but the same level of anticipation and buzz in the air. This gig sported a mix of music industry crowd, along with iconic musicians such as Kim Gordon from Sonic Youth, and everyday Wet Leg fans.

The London crowd were treated to the seven new tracks intermingled with Wet Leg classics, such as Too Late Now, Angelica and Being in Love. However, the room went wild for Chaise Longue, the track that catapulted the band to fame. It must be quite strange to be on stage and have almost the entire audience singing your lyrics back at you. The energy was electrifying.

Well done to these five musicians from the Isle of Wight – you absolutely smashed it!

Background
Wet Leg rose to fame in 2021 when their single Chaise Longue took the world by storm. They became an instant global success, with their debut album reaching number one in the UK charts in just one week, repeated in Australia the same week.

Life for the band changed from that moment, with two years of touring and playing festivals, supporting the likes of Harry Styles and Foo Fighters, and picking up plenty of awards along the way.

The band’s witty lyrics and catchy tunes means their fan base is not only worldwide, but also multigenerational, with Gen Zers bouncing alongside Gen Xers.

Teasers for new music were released on social media in March 2025, followed by the two ‘secret’ gigs under the ‘Uma Thurman’ pseudonym. Festival dates, including Glastonbury, and several US gigs have also been announced.
