Wightlink: All passengers to be forced to vacate their vehicles

Wightlink has just announced that, as of 1 October, all passengers will have to vacate their vehicles when travelling on their ferries to and from the Isle of Wight. Currently they are allow to stay inside their cars.

Wightlink didn’t release this information to the press, but instead chose to place the following on their Website …

At all our ports we aim to be a good neighbour. During on-going discussions with our neighbours at Fishbourne, it has become clear that the change in guidance from the MCA which means we have to clear the car deck of all passengers whenever we are carrying hazardous goods (e.g. aerosol deodorants, hairspray, nail varnish, fire extinguishers etc) has meant a great increase in the number of tannoy announcements we have had to make.

In an effort to reduce the disturbance to our neighbours at all ports we have reviewed our policy of passengers remaining on the car deck during crossings. With effect from 1 October, all passengers must vacate their vehicles and make their way to the passenger lounges when travelling on the Portsmouth-Fishbourne and Lymington-Yarmouth car ferry routes. Should passengers require assistance, then they must request this at the time of arrival at the port. Wightlink apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause.

Thank you to Linda Bassett for pointing it out to us.
