Vectis Radio offers unique opportunities for behind-the-scenes roles

Vectis Radio is looking for more volunteers.

The Island’s award-winning community Radio Station is looking for more people to join its team.

Mac: Join us and make a difference at Vectis Radio
Station Manager, Ian Mac said,

“Vectis Radio has gone from strength-to strength since it launched in 2010 and we’ve had a huge number of people helping us make that journey.

“There are some amazing things in the pipeline for the station so we need to bolster that team, not only to replace those who have moved on, but to expand what we do and spread the load more evenly.

“Join us and make a difference at Vectis Radio.”

Become part of the Vectis Radio team
There are many different and exciting ways you can become a part of the Vectis Radio team. The most obvious opportunity for radio is to become a Presenter or Co-host.

This will allow you to share your passion and personality as a show presenter, or co-host with experienced broadcasters to build your confidence and skills.

You can choose from a range of shows. For example evening and weekend shows offer more specialised music, while daytime shows are more structured, featuring a main presenter, a co-host, and often input from people who have been through or are currently part of our 4PS school. To host your own show, you need to be at least 18 years old, Co hosts 16+.

Support
Rest assured, there is plenty of support and we give full training on our systems. If you still want to use your voice, but don’t fancy doing a show, then you could explore opportunities in our news team and assist with VoiceOver and production. Some of this can be done from home, so inform us about your existing system, software and microphone setup, if you have one; or let us know if you require assistance as we will be happy to help.

Behind the scenes
There are opportunities behind the scenes too, if talking on the air isn’t for you. Everything from technical work, to DIY and keeping our station clean and tidy. We also need people to collate the local news and prepare bulletins as well as people to look after our social media presence.

Maybe you’d like to help our Outside Broadcast (OB) team in setting up and breaking down? If you like meeting people OBs are the perfect way & we would be particularly interested if you are able to tow a small caravan!

Fundraising
Finally, you can support us in fundraising. Vectis Radio depends on fundraising to enable it to exist. Fundraising events are held regularly and you could help to organise them. If you are a dab-hand at form filling, there are grants to be applied for too. Many ways to share your available time and commitment for funding efforts.

Before taking the next step, consider your availability for daytime, evening, or weekend slots. If you have an idea for a specialist music show, outline its concept before pitching it.

Other bits
Note that you should be based on the Isle of Wight to be eligible and that all volunteers will be required to sign a contract after being familiarised with our rules and regulations. As an Ofcom licenced FM station we have to abide by a stringent set of regulations.

Please join us in making Vectis Radio an even better experience for our listeners and the community. Your contribution matters! If you would like to get involved email
