Isle of Wight’s Vectis Radio celebrates community impact with National accolades

Local community radio station Vectis Radio is on cloud nine after securing four prestigious national awards during the recent Community Radio Awards held in Newcastle. This achievement is even more remarkable as it coincided with the sixth anniversary of their FM launch.

Last year, Vectis Radio clinched the bronze in The Station of the Year category. This year, they have outdone themselves by claiming the silver award in the same category, solidifying their position as a leading community radio station.

The accolades didn’t stop there; the 4PS Radio training school also received a silver in the Community Impact category.

Volunteer of the Year – Gold Award
Maggie Currie (pictured above), a dedicated volunteer, stood out as she was honoured with the gold award in the Volunteer of the Year category, recognizing her invaluable contributions to the station.

Additionally, Phil Norris, who embarked on his radio journey in March of this year, demonstrated his exceptional potential and received a well-deserved bronze in the Newcomer of the Year category.

Mac: We’ll certainly strive for it once again
Reflecting on these remarkable achievements, Ian Mac, Station Manager and a proud member of
the Vectis Radio team, remarked,

“I am incredibly proud of our accomplishments, particularly this year.

“Each year, it becomes increasingly challenging to surpass our previous successes, but we’ll certainly strive for it once again.

“I believe I said the same thing last year, and we delivered.”

Currie: A profoundly special moment
Kelvin Currie, echoing the sentiments of the team, commented,

“Accepting the Gold Award for Volunteer of the Year on behalf of my wife, Maggie, was a profoundly special moment.

“We hope that she will be present at next year’s ceremony to pass on the torch, a fitting tribute to her dedication and commitment to Vectis Radio.”

Finally, the team at Vectis Radio would like to pass on their grateful thanks to Red Funnel for
sponsoring their cross-Solent travel.
