Prize-Giving For Young Island Open Competition

A couple of weekends ago, we were delighted to attend the preview and prize-giving for the Quay Arts Young Island Open Competition, Where Are You Going?

The standard of entries into the open competition for 13-18 year olds, organised by The Young Curators, was outstanding and the exhibition, which runs in The West Gallery at Quay Arts until 16th April, is testament to that.

In fact, the standard was so great that the judges found it very difficult to choose a traditional first, second and third prize-winner.

Instead, they awarded three entries joint first prize.

And the winners are …..
Holly Cade from Cowes was chosen for her series of three photographs titled, ‘Where are you going?’ (the first three in the gallery below)

Dominic Barnes from Carisbrooke High School picked up a prize for ‘You Can’t Drink Oil’, a very striking piece with mixed media on canvas (fourth in the gallery below).

Finally, Joseph Thurbin from Niton with his short film ‘The Bone Collectors’ was the third prize-winner (film below). Joseph’s film was also shown last weekend at the Wight Film Screening Day.

Congratulations to everyone who took part. The exhibition runs until 16th April 2011.
