The academy sponsor and Department for Education say the school is not viable because of a lack of capacity, but the local councillor believes it is just the latest casualty of under-funding from the Government.
The Isle of Wight Studio School was founded in East Cowes in 2014. It brought with it a new and totally different type of state school, offering rigorous academic qualifications in English, Mathematics, Science, Business and Enterprise and high quality vocational qualifications, such as Engineering, coupled with employer-led real work projects.
In April 2018 Inspire Academy Trust announced plans to close the school because there were “too few students choosing to study in Years 12 and 13”.
Parents, pupils and even the head teacher fought back.
