Fascinating stories promised at Open Archive Day

Thanks to Archive Rescue for the reminder of this upcoming event.

Open Archive Day is celebrated next Wednesday (9th October) at Freshwater Library between 10am-4pm.

In the morning two short talks will be given and

First up will be John Kempster (around 10.30am) who’ll be speaking about a family business still missed.

Following this, Richard Holleyman will relate the tale of the historic, if accidental, first landing of an aircraft on the Island … a fascinating story not widely known.

October display
Material displayed throughout October relates to the Plumley family of Brooklands and of Elmbank, now better known as Moon’s Hill House.

The Group have researched the family following the purchase of wonderful original material by Elizabeth Hutchings, generously placed in the Archive on permanent loan.

Group members will be on hand and of course Archive material will be accessible.
