The Blue Lamp Trust has recently introduced a dedicated service to help protect vulnerable residents on the Isle of Wight from becoming victims of crime.
This initiative, known as the Bobby Scheme, provides free home visits to offer personalised advice on crime and fire prevention. The service aims to improve safety and provide reassurance to those most at risk.
Who can benefit from the Bobby Scheme?
The Bobby Scheme is available to Isle of Wight residents who meet specific criteria. Eligible individuals include those who are:
- Aged over 60
- Disabled
- Victims of crime, burglary, or domestic abuse
The service also caters to residents who feel vulnerable due to their circumstances and would benefit from additional safety measures at home.
What does the scheme offer?
Lois, the Blue Lamp Trust’s police-vetted Safety Technician, visits eligible homes to carry out a comprehensive safety survey. During these visits, she can install essential items at no cost, such as:
- Locks
- Spy holes
- Door chains
- Smoke alarms
- Carbon monoxide alarms
For a fee, the Trust also offers additional items, including:
- Key safes: ACPO Police Accredited C500 Key Safes, supplied and installed for £55
- Ring Doorbells: Smart doorbells, supplied and installed for £90
Police-vetted technicians provide reassurance
All Blue Lamp Trust advisors are police-vetted and carry official ID cards.
Residents are encouraged to ask for identification to confirm their authenticity, with the advisors fully supportive of this precaution.
How to access the service
If you or someone you know could benefit from the Bobby Scheme, referrals can be made through the Blue Lamp Trust website or by calling 0300 777 0157.
This initiative provides a valuable resource for some of the Isle of Wight’s most vulnerable residents, offering practical solutions to help them feel safer in their own homes.
